at this moment sellers is consoling several homesick campers, grayton is trying to bounce a ball, the staff and campers are in the masters center (formally the staff cottage) in Deans' Program - let by De Freeman and Anthony McQuinnie - both of which were my counselors.
there is a wedding of a former staff member celebrating an after-rehearsal dinner under the pavilion. i wonder if anyone will throw their clothes and go 'nightswimming'?
there is a new director this summer, and the staff is still trying to adjust to change and weird new policies, etc. my first summer on permanent staff - 1993 - was tom sinclair's inaugural summer, and i recall many-a-night in the masters' living room trying to deliberate what we should do to "save the camp." we were so young, but in that case we were right......and here i am again watching a staff debate and wonder if anything will ever be the same.
i hear a lot of "that's the way it's always been done," when in fact it (whatever IT may be) has been tradition for perhaps 2-3 years.
for instance, this afternoon, riding my bike around the campus, i stopped by arts-n-crafts and discovered THE ping pong table. i inquired if it could be used for ping pong in Wilson, which created a conversation about the table's placement. i was even told that the table was supposed to sit there. whatever, it was a moment of impulse, and i miss playing ping pong, although i was never any good at it.
well, deans program is ending soon, and then we are beginning the counselor hunt.
it's also time for baby's bath, and the dog to come in and settle.
katie, i hope this was to your liking........how do i let people know about this blog?
friendship and love may they bloom and grow.........
